A fourteen year old schoolboy from Glenrothes has been found dead just weeks after coming out as gay in a YouTube video. Liam McAlpine was a pupil at Glenrothes High School and had made a YouTube video to help other young people who were experiencing bullying. He criticised the way his school reacted to bullying and urged others to speak up if they felt bullied.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland commented: “Police in Fife are investigating following the death of a 14-year-old boy at an address in Elgin Drive, Glenrothes. The incident was reported to police around 3.40pm on Sunday, March 5. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Liam’s family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time.
The thoughts of the Fife News Online team are with Liam’s family and friends at this very difficult time.
